Belize and Guatemala are neighboring countries located in Central America.
Belize is a small country located on the eastern coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. The country has a diverse population, with a mix of Creoles, Mestizos, Garifuna, Maya, and other indigenous groups. English is the official language and the country has a parliamentary democracy.
Guatemala is a larger country located to the west of Belize, bordering Mexico to the north and west, Belize to the northeast, Honduras and El Salvador to the southeast, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. The population is predominantly of indigenous Maya descent, with other ethnic groups including Ladinos, Garifuna, and Xinca. The official language is Spanish and the country has a presidential representative democratic system.
There are a number of cultural and historical connections between the two countries, due to their shared Maya heritage and the legacy of Spanish colonization. However, the relationship between Belize and Guatemala has been strained at times due to territorial disputes over a portion of the Belizean border.
